North Portland HEAL Coalition celebrates success

In December, the North Portland HEAL Coalition celebrated six years of healthy eating and active living changes at and around César Chávez School in the Portsmouth neighborhood. For the last six years, the Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) Coalition has worked to make healthy choices easier for the school's students, their families and school neighbors. Read more »

Water project measures success

Student water promotion posterUpstream Public Health and the David Douglas School District joined forces during the 2011 and 2012 school years to increase water consumption by students at David Douglas schools. A new project evaluation report issued last June shows that the pilot project was successful in increasing water consumption for some high school students. Portland City Council unanimously approves Portland Plan

Last week, the Portland City Council adopted the Portland Plan -- a long-term, strategic vision for the city, that is intended to help make sure that Portland is prosperous, healthy and equitable from now until 2035.

Thanks to the Portland Plan all Portland residents will have greater access to opportunities for healthy eating and active living, including features like sidewalks, bike lanes and parks, and amenities like full-service grocery stores and community gardens. Read more »
